PHI VIOLA 2
Experience Pure Lightness with the PHI VIOLA 2
For those who believe flying should feel weightless—both in spirit and in equipment—the PHI VIOLA 2 is the answer. As the refined successor to the original VIOLA, this high-performance ultralight paraglider is designed to deliver maximum adventure with minimum mass. Whether you’re a hike-and-fly enthusiast, a vol-biv explorer, or a traveler who values compact, dependable gear, the VIOLA 2 is your go-to wing for versatile freedom.
Every line, seam, and cell in this glider reflects PHI’s continued commitment to innovation, safety, and real-world usability. Thanks to Hannes Papesh’s visionary design philosophy, the VIOLA 2 offers an extraordinary balance of agility, precision, and passive security—without compromise.
Why Choose the PHI VIOLA 2?
Lightweight wings often ask pilots to choose between performance and durability. However, the PHI VIOLA 2 eliminates that trade-off. Built with smart material distribution and refined load-bearing geometry, this wing remains strong in structure while retaining its ultralight DNA. Additionally, it’s certified in both EN A and EN B, depending on size and weight range—giving you the ability to tailor your flight experience based on your skill level and goals.
Moreover, wherever you fly—from alpine takeoffs to sunny ridgelines—the VIOLA 2 ensures intuitive control, playful handling, and dependable safety in one of the lightest packages in its class.

A Wing That Evolves With You
Performance Meets Approachability
Whether you’re a low-airtime pilot seeking a calm ultralight or a seasoned flyer searching for compact performance, the VIOLA 2 adapts. At lower wing loadings, it behaves with the grace and stability of a school-class glider. Yet, when flown at the higher end of its certified range, it responds with dynamic energy and agile handling, making it ideal for mini XC flights and thermaling on the go.
Consequently, this dual nature makes the VIOLA 2 truly unique—it’s not just a beginner or expert wing. Instead, it’s a wing for the journey.
Multiple Certifications, One Smart Choice
Because it’s certified both EN A and EN B depending on pilot loading, you can choose the level of feedback and responsiveness you want. Need maximum passive safety for hike-and-fly descents? Choose a larger size. Want more agility and performance in stronger conditions? Opt for a smaller model flown at higher loading. Either way, the VIOLA 2 remains reliable, composed, and delightfully capable.
Smooth Inflation, Seamless Launch
Ground Handling Without the Guesswork
Launching the VIOLA 2 is remarkably simple. Its canopy rises symmetrically and gently—even in no-wind or crosswind scenarios. Thanks to its efficient airfoil and refined line distribution, the glider centers naturally above you with minimal brake input.
In addition, the lightweight risers are color-coded and easy to manage, ensuring that preparation on the ground remains stress-free and intuitive—especially when time is short or terrain is technical.
Takeoff Confidence in Every Condition
No matter where you fly—from alpine cliffs to grassy slopes—the VIOLA 2 gives you the peace of mind you need to commit. The wing lifts cleanly, stabilizes quickly, and accelerates smoothly, getting you airborne with grace and security.
In-Flight Precision With Lightweight Elegance
Responsive Yet Forgiving Handling
Once in the air, the PHI VIOLA 2 shines with reactive, confidence-inspiring handling. Brake inputs are immediate yet never abrupt. You feel every thermal without getting tossed. The wing holds course in glides while remaining nimble in tight turns, helping you climb efficiently and transition smoothly.
Despite its ultralight status, it feels solid—never twitchy. This balance makes it easy to enjoy technical flying, whether you’re scratching in light lift or navigating mountain turbulence.
Thermaling and Soaring Made Efficient
Thanks to its refined polar curve and excellent sink rate, the VIOLA 2 enters thermals smoothly and climbs with minimal effort. At the same time, it glides farther than most wings in its class. As a result, you can link lift with ease, soar longer, and extend your flights without sacrificing energy.
That means more airtime, more adventure, and more opportunities to explore.
Built for Real-Life Adventures
Strong Where It Matters
Although ultralight, the VIOLA 2 doesn’t cut corners. Its leading edge features reinforced structures for longevity, while carefully chosen materials provide resistance to wear and tear. Therefore, you can hike with confidence knowing your wing won’t degrade after a few seasons of use.
For bivy missions, travel flights, or regular local laps, it performs just as reliably after the hundredth launch as it does on the first.
Folds Small, Travels Big
Portability is central to the VIOLA 2. It packs down incredibly compact, fitting easily into lightweight bags or modular harness setups. When you’re exploring on foot or flying from remote takeoffs, this reduced volume makes all the difference.
So whether you’re hiking a ridge, boarding a flight, or riding a bike to launch, this wing is always ready.
A Wing for Every Pilot, Every Profile
11 Sizes for Ultimate Fit and Flexibility
PHI’s commitment to inclusivity is clearly reflected in the VIOLA 2’s 11 available sizes, accommodating pilots across the full spectrum of weights—from 50 kg to 145 kg all-up load. This extensive size range ensures the same flight behavior and certification, regardless of your body type or payload.
So you’re never stuck compromising comfort for performance—or vice versa.
Beginner to Expert, Hike-and-Fly to XC
No matter where you are in your flying path, there’s a VIOLA 2 configuration for you. Beginners flying at lower loadings will benefit from mellow reactions and high stability. Experienced pilots, on the other hand, can push the performance envelope by loading the wing toward the higher end.
Ultimately, the VIOLA 2 doesn’t box you in—it opens doors.
Engineered by Hannes Papesh, Backed by PHI
The heart of every PHI wing is the vision of Hannes Papesh, whose decades of experience have shaped the gliders that pilots around the world trust. The VIOLA 2 is no exception. Designed with precision, built with care, and tested under real flying conditions, it’s a reflection of PHI’s unshakable standards.PHI VIOLA 2
Every flight proves it: this wing wasn’t just built for the mountains—it was built for pilots like you.

PHI VIOLA 2: the continuation of a success story
The first VIOLA wrote a success story. The pilots loved her performance, dynamic energy, precision and of course everything paired with her playful ease.
The VIOLA 2 continues this success. It is even lighter than its predecessor and even more balanced.
Better launch behavior, better roll damping, better handling and more performance.PHI VIOLA 2
Viola 2 secrets
The secret to develop extraordinary wings is the passion to fly. PHI team are enthusiastic pilots, loving hike and fly adventures. They have to admit: they built the VIOLA 2 for themselves.
PHI VIOLA 2 Features
Due to the high complexity of the inner construction of the VIOLA 2, the forces are distributed very evenly. The high form stability enables a flat surface: this means better roll damping and more performance.
The new, stiffer rods in the intake area offer an extremely good inflation and takeoff behaviour. A must in extreme alpine PHI VIOLA 2

Risers
Standard: ‘Semilight’ R04 (3+1)
Optional: ‘Superlight’ RZ3 (3), ‘Superlight +’ R03 (3 +1), ‘Semlight C Handle’ R07 (3+1)
You are free to customize and choose another riser free of charge but this will delay your order by 3-7 days. If saving every gram is your top priority, you may choose the “Superlight” RZ3 riser. This reduces the weight on the tech data list by around 250-285g but compromises usability and increases speed system pressure.
