PHI SOLA UL Ultralight Reimagined — Performance Without Compromise
Precision in Every Gram
In ultralight gliders, cutting weight usually means making trade-offs. However, the PHI SOLA UL proves you can have the best of both worlds. It maintains the safe, dependable handling of the standard SOLA model while shedding bulk for extreme portability.PHI SOLA UL
Because of this careful weight reduction, you can fly farther, climb higher, and hike longer—without fatigue or frustration. This makes it ideal for alpine flights, bivy adventures, and backcountry routes where carrying less means going further.
Compact Packing for Adventure on the Go
Designed for pilots who think beyond the takeoff, the SOLA UL packs down incredibly small. Pair it with a lightweight harness, and you’ll carry an entire paragliding kit that fits into a compact daypack. From trains to trails, ridges to rooftops, your gear no longer limits your adventure.PHI SOLA UL
And thanks to the fabric’s flexible properties, folding becomes simple and intuitive, saving you time at launch and landing.
Launch with Confidence, Land with Grace
Smooth Takeoffs in All Conditions
The PHI SOLA UL rises easily and symmetrically—even in light or variable wind. Its profile was tailored for effortless inflation, allowing newer pilots to feel confident and supported during ground handling. At the same time, experienced flyers will appreciate the wing’s quick responsiveness and low takeoff speed.
Because of its clean line layout and simple riser configuration, pre-launch preparation takes minutes, not moments. That means more time flying, less time untangling.
Predictable, Soft Landings
When it’s time to come down, the SOLA UL delivers. Brake progression is smooth, the flare window is wide, and touchdown feels gentle even in short or technical landing zones. Whether you’re landing in a mountain meadow or squeezing into a tight trailhead, this wing gives you the control you need to land with confidence.
In-Flight Experience: Stability Meets Freedom
Calm Reactions, Clear Feedback
Once airborne, the SOLA UL feels like an extension of your intuition. Its calm pitch behavior, solid roll stability, and low aspect ratio create a flying experience that feels secure and reassuring—even in active air. Furthermore, subtle brake inputs translate into gentle course corrections, making it easy to navigate terrain and stay on track.
Unlike some ultralight wings that can feel nervous or overly reactive, the SOLA UL maintains its composure while still letting you stay connected to lift and transitions. That means longer flights with less pilot fatigue.
Thermal Soaring Made Simple
Although designed primarily for hike-and-fly, the SOLA UL doesn’t shy away from lift. When you find a thermal, the wing circles efficiently and climbs steadily. It won’t require heavy inputs or constant correction—just relaxed control and a sense of the wind.
This makes it not only a great first glider but a useful second wing for seasoned pilots seeking spontaneous, low-stress flights in varied locations.
Inclusive by Design — Size and Access for All
From Light to Heavy, Everyone’s Welcome
PHI doesn’t believe in “one-size-fits-some.” The SOLA UL is offered in multiple sizes—from 16 m² to 28 m²—accommodating total flying weights from 50 kg to 120+ kg. So regardless of your body type, gear choices, or wing loading preference, there’s a SOLA UL tailored to your flying goals.
Additionally, the consistent behavior across the size range ensures every pilot experiences the same signature PHI flight feeling: secure, balanced, and intuitive.
Multiple Applications, One Solution
The SOLA UL isn’t limited to mountain flyers. It also suits urban pilots launching from tight spaces, tandem pilots needing a backup wing, and globetrotters seeking reliable equipment in unfamiliar environments. With its combination of low weight, excellent safety, and reliable handling, it’s a wing that adapts to you.
PHI Innovation — Engineered by Hannes Papesh
Every detail of the SOLA UL reflects the experience and insight of Hannes Papesh, one of the most respected paraglider designers in the world. His work at PHI has continuously focused on blending safety, efficiency, and excitement into every glider. The SOLA UL is no exception—it distills decades of research into a wing that’s as forgiving as it is liberating.
With PHI’s rigorous certification process, materials testing, and real-world feedback integration, you can fly confidently knowing your wing was built to the highest standards.
PHI SOLA UL — Designed for Movement, Built for Flight
In a world where freedom often comes at the cost of function, the PHI SOLA UL breaks the mold. It proves that true adventure doesn’t need to weigh you down. From remote summits to rolling countryside, this wing encourages spontaneous flying, bold exploration, and joyful landings.
So, whether you’re beginning your flying life or adding agility to your experienced skillset, the SOLA UL makes it easier to say “yes” to flight—wherever you are.

PHI SOLA UL : SIMPLY GT!
The robust evolution of PHI’s superlight and supereasy low A wing: the SOLA. A new cloth is less expensive and more robust for tough training hill use and much more…
PHI SOLA ULÂ Technical Features
The SOLA has it’s roots in the FANTASIA, but finally was designed absolutely new: different ground shape, cell with distribution, intake, diagonal ribs, etc
PHI spend some tome to improve take off behaviour: never before launch was that easy!
As well PHI realized to the goal that it really fun to fly the SOLA and the performance is good!
and it’s fast!: an absolute must in the high mountains! When flying in alpine valleys or all above the peaks: speed is the base for safety.PHI SOLA UL
A special technical feature is, that the SOLA has a very stable 3 suspension airfoil in the centre, offering her an extra stability bonus.
With the PHI SOLA UL are further on the trend to robust, covered lines in all sections in chosing a robust cloth.
Specially at take off in free alpine area, you need an equipment you can trust and that is easy to handle.
Designer’s note
“We more and more gain the technology to make flying very easy. The SOLA offers a new level of simplicity. Takeoff, flying, landing has never before been that simple. Flying is now a normal activity that anyone can do, like a walk in the park.
On top ot the SOLA, the SOLA GT offers a new level of robustness for light. You can hike and take your wing on the harsh take offs of south europe or to every other adventure.”– Hannes Papesh
PHI SOLA ULÂ Weight ranges
Like the bigger sister VIOLA, the SOLA GT has extended weight ranges, offering more energy.
Compared to the VIOLA, the SOLA GT is all around more easy and the roll damping is much better.
FOR SCHOOLING
There’s no glider easier to train with than the SOLA GT. No glider is as forgiving of mistakes on take-off: the wing inflates reliably, climbs well and stops itself over the pilot’s head. The braking distance is enormous: a stall is virtually impossible. However, the reaction to brake input is good and direct: the SOLA GT turns extremely flat, i.e. without accumulating energy. Roll damping is unrivalled: the wing flies as if on rails.
PHI SOLA ULÂ IN THERMAL FLIGHT
In the thermal weight range, the SOLA GT is very well damped on all axes: it turns well flat, gives only the necessary feedback and always stands reliably above the pilot. Both in and out of the thermal, pitching backwards or forwards remains very low.
FOR HIKE&FLY
Thanks to its light weight and super-simple handling, the SOLA GT is the perfect machine for Hike&Fly. Its qualities are particularly appreciated in difficult terrain and demanding conditions.
PHI SOLA ULÂ AS MINIWING
An even higher wing loading makes the SOLA GT a miniwing. Power is a little higher, but still very easy to control. Its unique roll damping makes it very precise to control in all areas.PHI SOLA UL

Risers
- Standard: R10 (3+1)
- Options: RZ1 (3), R01 (3+1)
You are free to customize and choose another riser free of charge but this will delay your order by 3-7 days. If saving every gram is your top priority, you may choose the “Superlight” RZ3 riser. This reduces the weight on the tech data list by around 250-285g but compromises usability and increases speed system pressure.PHI SOLA UL
