Why the PHI BEAT 2 Light is a Game-Changer
1. Exceptional Lightweight Engineering
Made with premium Porcher Skytex 27 and 32 g/m² materials, the PHI BEAT 2 Light cuts unnecessary weight without sacrificing durability. Consequently, it supports effortless inflation and gentle handling, even in challenging conditions.
Because every gram matters, the lighter pack weight translates into less fatigue on the approach and more energy for soaring once airborne. Furthermore, its robust construction means you don’t have to worry about wear and tear during extended adventures.
2. Outstanding XC Performance
Despite being a light wing, the BEAT 2 Light offers exceptional glide and climb capabilities. Thanks to an optimized aerodynamic profile, it excels in thermal efficiency and dynamic transitions. Therefore, you can maximize your flight time and explore new distances with greater ease.
Moreover, its low line count reduces drag significantly, enhancing speed and glide ratio. Consequently, transitions become smoother and the overall flying experience more rewarding.
PHI BEAT 2 Light Advanced Design Features
3. Innovative Internal Structure
The wing’s internal architecture includes diagonal ribs and strategically placed tension bands. These elements improve canopy stability by evenly distributing loads across the surface. As a result, the BEAT 2 Light maintains a clean, stable shape even during aggressive maneuvers or turbulent air.
This engineering leads to higher passive safety without compromising the wing’s liveliness and responsiveness. Ultimately, it means you can trust your wing to behave predictably, even in unexpected situations.
4. Streamlined Line Layout
In addition to weight savings, the BEAT 2 Light benefits from a minimalist line configuration. This layout reduces complexity on the ground, decreases aerodynamic drag, and simplifies pre-flight checks. Consequently, you gain both performance advantages and peace of mind.
Because of this clean design, setup times shorten, allowing you to focus more on your flight and less on your gear.
PHI BEAT 2 Light Handling and Flight Characteristics
5. Responsive Yet Forgiving Controls
Pilots often describe the BEAT 2 Light as an ideal balance between precise handling and forgiving nature. Brake inputs deliver smooth and direct feedback, helping you stay connected to the wing without tiring your arms.
Additionally, the wing’s pitch stability reduces sudden movements during acceleration or turbulence. This stability provides a comfortable flying experience, whether you’re cruising cross-country or enjoying playful thermalling.
6. Effortless Launches and Landings
Launching lightweight wings can sometimes be challenging, but not with the BEAT 2 Light. Its carefully optimized leading edge and canopy profile allow for smooth, progressive inflation—even in light or variable wind conditions.
Similarly, landings become more manageable due to the wing’s predictable flare and steady descent behavior. Therefore, you can confidently approach even unfamiliar landing zones without hesitation.

BEAT 2 light: THE BEAT GOES ON!
Here the long awaited sucessor of PHI’s bestseller:
- The BEAT 2 light is following the legendary BEAT light as the perfect middle of the wing’s bandwidth.
- The BEAT light strikes the perfect balance of outstanding safety and simplicity on the one hand and performance that will satisfy even an advanced pilot at any time on the other.
- The BEAT 2 light symbolizes the legendary “Golden Ratio” and represents the meaning of our brand PHI like no other of thier wings.
PHI BEAT 2 Light Designer’s notes
I was flying the BEAT and BEAT light a lot and enjoyed it’s very high comfort level. Not without a reason the BEAT is our best seller.
It was not easy to find some “weak points” to be improved. Finally we improved take off, reduced the weight, made even safer and the handling a lot better. Because of the cleaner surface and changed sail tension, the performance improved feelable. So we are very sure that the BEAT 2 light will be even more successful than it’s predecessor.
— Hannes Papesh, Phi Designer
Features
There are a lot of differences between the BEAT and the BEAT 2 -just the ground shape / outline is the same.
The “X-ray view” against the light shows the new internal construction: line suspension points moved, diagonal fingers are optimized, there are different straps with markant V shaped anchor connections.
The intake is different, the sail cut, the rods (now as well on bottom sail). The stabilo is completely different.
It is never easy for a designer to make a new generation of a best seller. Too often you want “too much” and destroy the key features that made the original so successful.
PHI BEAT 2 Light
PHI wanted to be sure that the BEAT 2 stays a BEAT, but they wanted to carefully make it even better. Please give it a try!
You will experience the clearly better, more forgiving take off behaviour.
You may immediately feel the better handling, higher agility, even more “defined” feedback.
The playful ease with which you dance your way to the top of the thermalling pulk is unique!
At the request of many pilots, the BEAT 2 has only robust, sheathed lines on the brakes and stabilo, which stand out clearly from the ground in their orange.
With this decision PHI follows their conviction that paragliding has to become easier again!
PHI BEAT 2 Light Materials
- Porcher Skytex 27 double coated
Risers
- Standard R04 (3+1)
- Optional: RZ3 (3), R03 (3+1)
You are free to customize and choose another riser free of charge but this will delay your order by 3-7 days. If saving every gram is your top priority, you may choose the “Superlight” RZ3 riser. This reduces the weight on the tech data list by around 250-285g but compromises usability and increases speed system pressure.
PHI BEAT 2 Light FAQ
How should the BEAT 2 light be packed?
The rods of the BEAT 2 light are quite short and not sensitive against bending. You can pack the BEAT 2 light without big attention.
What is the service interval of the BEAT 2 light? Is a trim tuning needed?
The service interval is as usual 2 years from the first flight. Please fill in your first flight in the type table. On the base of our experience with the lines material mix, there is no trim tuning necessary: the trim does normally not change significantly.
Can the BEAT 2 light be equipped with the C steering R07 riser?
Yes: you can order the BEAT 2 light with the C handle R07 riser. As for all PHI wings you can chose the riser at ordering. The R07 riser is rising the demand, as it is not as easy to be sorted as a normal riser (because of the free ball bearing roll as the B riser). We are recommending the R07 only for more experienced pilots.
What is the extended weight range?
As the BEAT 2 light has a very wide safety margin, we decided to offer an extended weight range. This is offering the possibility to fly the BEAT 2 light with more wing loading, still being in the certification range. A pilot may use this option on days with strong thermals with extra ballast, for strong wind soaring or when he generally loves to fly a high loaded wing for more speed, more dynamic energy and more fun.
For normal thermal flying it is recommended to stay inside the standard weight range.
