PHI BEAT 2: Unlock Limitless XC Adventures With Confidence

Discover the Next Step in Your Flying Progression

Step into a world where intuitive handling, inspiring stability, and cutting-edge performance converge. The PHI BEAT 2 represents a remarkable leap forward in the mid-B class, designed to deliver maximum enjoyment while respecting every pilot’s desire for safety. Whether you dream of pushing your cross-country ambitions, improving your skills, or simply enjoying hours of stress-free soaring, this wing is built to meet — and exceed — your expectations.

Moreover, the BEAT 2 seamlessly bridges the gap between confidence-building and performance, empowering you to grow as a pilot while exploring broader horizons. Consequently, every thermal, transition, and final approach becomes a moment of absolute joy.

Why Choose the PHI BEAT 2?

1. Performance for Progression

Because PHI understands the needs of progressing pilots, the BEAT 2 has been carefully engineered to deliver top-tier glide and climb performance. As a result, you can expand your cross-country range without stepping too far outside your comfort zone. Its refined airfoil shape and moderate aspect ratio combine to ensure pitch stability in turbulent conditions while providing the responsiveness needed for advanced maneuvers.

Furthermore, this design gives you a smoother ride in active air, preserving your energy and focus on longer flights. Therefore, you enjoy the best of both worlds: stress-free handling with performance you can trust.

Advanced Construction for Real-World Pilots

2. Reinforced Yet Lightweight

Thanks to its thoughtful construction, the PHI BEAT 2 delivers both strength and moderate weight. Using a combination of proven Porcher Skytex materials in strategic positions, it resists wear while maintaining an easy, responsive launch. Consequently, you benefit from a durable wing that doesn’t hold you back on long hikes or remote launches.

Additionally, the internal structure features diagonal ribs, optimized tension bands, and a carefully tuned line plan. These details ensure stability under load while keeping line drag low. Because of this, transitions between thermals are cleaner, climbs are more efficient, and you can trust your wing even in challenging conditions.

Predictable, Enjoyable Handling

3. Intuitive Control

PHI prioritized the BEAT 2’s brake feel so you can fly with confidence. Therefore, brake pressure remains progressive, and brake travel is carefully balanced to deliver direct, clear feedback. Even in tight thermals or low saves, the wing responds precisely, helping you maximize your climb while staying calm and focused.

Equally important, its pitch-stable character reduces unwanted surges, meaning you can actively fly without constantly correcting the glider. Consequently, long hours in the air become more enjoyable and far less tiring.

4. Smooth Takeoffs and Controlled Landings

For any pilot, takeoff defines the rest of the flight. Fortunately, the PHI BEAT 2 excels here. Its leading edge profile, combined with a well-proportioned sail tension, provides gentle, progressive inflation. Therefore, the wing rises smoothly overhead without harsh overshooting, even in stronger breezes.

Moreover, when it’s time to land, the BEAT 2’s forgiving flare authority allows you to finish gracefully, whether in tight fields or alpine slopes. As a result, every phase of your flight feels polished, professional, and confidence-inspiring.

A Versatile XC Partner

5. Balanced Aspect Ratio

Although higher-aspect-ratio wings can offer extreme glide, PHI chose a moderate aspect ratio for the BEAT 2 to deliver a perfect compromise. Because of this, you enjoy enough performance to cover long distances while maintaining rock-solid stability in turbulence.

Consequently, you can push your flights further without worrying about surprises. Therefore, the BEAT 2 is the perfect companion for pilots seeking to step up from an EN-A glider to a higher-performing platform.

Who Is the PHI BEAT 2 For?

6. Confident Intermediates

If you’ve built your foundation on a safe, predictable beginner wing, the BEAT 2 is your natural next step. It supports developing skills with enough headroom to keep you challenged while maintaining passive safety for peace of mind.

7. Seasoned XC Adventurers

For pilots with hours under their belt, the BEAT 2 offers glide performance, efficient transitions, and fun, dynamic handling. Accordingly, you’ll discover a wing that supports creative route choices and stronger thermalling days.

8. Hike-and-Fly Pilots

While not an ultralight model, the BEAT 2’s moderate weight and reasonable pack volume mean you can confidently hike to remote launches without a burdensome pack. Consequently, you open new flying playgrounds and new experiences with far less compromise.

BEAT 2: THE BEAT GOES ON!

Here the long awaited sucessor of PHI’s bestseller:

  • The BEAT 2 is following the legendary BEAT as the perfect middle of the wing’s bandwidth.
  • The BEAT strikes the perfect balance of outstanding safety and simplicity on the one hand and performance that will satisfy even an advanced pilot at any time on the other.
  • The BEAT 2 symbolizes the legendary “Golden Ratio” and represents the meaning of our brand PHI like no other of their wings.

Designer’s notes

I was flying the BEAT a lot and enjoyed it’s very high comfort level. Not without a reason the BEAT is our best seller.
It was not easy to find some “weak points” to be improved. Finally we improved take off, reduced the weight, made even safer and the handling a lot better. Because of the cleaner surface and changed sail tension, the performance improved feelable. So we are very sure that the BEAT 2 will be even more successful than it’s predecessor.

— Hannes Papesh, Phi Designer

PHI BEAT 2 Features

There are a lot of differences between the BEAT and the BEAT 2 -just the ground shape / outline is the same.
The “X-ray view” against the light shows the new internal construction: line suspension points moved, diagonal fingers are optimized, there are different straps with markant V shaped anchor connections.
The intake is different, the sail cut, the rods (now as well on bottom sail). The stabilo is completely different.
It is never easy for a designer to make a new generation of a best seller. Too often you want “too much” and destroy the key features that made the original so successful.

PHI BEAT 2

PHI wanted to be sure that the BEAT 2 stays a BEAT, but they wanted to carefully make it even better. Please give it a try!
You will experience the clearly better, more forgiving take off behaviour.
You may immediately feel the better handling, higher agility, even more “defined” feedback.
The playful ease with which you dance your way to the top of the thermalling pulk is unique!

At the request of many pilots, the BEAT 2 has only robust, sheathed lines on the brakes and stabilo, which stand out clearly from the ground in their orange.
With this decision PHI follows their conviction that paragliding has to become easier again!

PHI BEAT 2 Materials

  • MJ 20D, Skytex 40

As with the original BEAT, all of the lower lines of the BEAT 2 are sheathed, including the brake lines, only the upper lines are unsheathed.

PHI BEAT 2 Risers

  • R01 (3+1)

You are free to customize and choose another riser free of charge but this will delay your order by 3-7 days. If saving every gram is your top priority, for example you may choose the “Superlight” RZ3 riser. This reduces the weight on the tech data list by around 250-285g but compromises usability and increases speed system pressure.

PHI BEAT 2 FAQ

How should the BEAT 2 be packed?

The rods of the BEAT 2 are quite short and not sensitive against bending. You can pack the BEAT 2 without big attention.

What is the service interval of the BEAT 2? Is a trim tuning needed?

The service interval is as usual 2 years from the first flight. Please fill in your first flight in the type table. On the base of our experience with the lines material mix, there is no trim tuning necessary: the trim does normally not change significantly.

Can the BEAT 2 be equipped with the C steering R07 riser?

Yes: you can order the BEAT 2 with the C handle R07 riser. As for all PHI wings you can chose the riser at ordering. The R07 riser is rising the demand, as it is not as easy to be sorted as a normal riser (because of the free ball bearing roll as the B riser). We are recommending the R07 only for more experienced pilots.

What is the extended weight range?

As the BEAT 2 light has a very wide safety margin, we decided to offer an extended weight range. This is offering the possibility to fly the BEAT 2 light with more wing loading, still being in the certification range. A pilot may use this option on days with strong thermals with extra ballast, for strong wind soaring or when he generally loves to fly a high loaded wing for more speed, more dynamic energy and more fun.
For normal thermal flying it is recommended to stay inside the standard weight range.
